Description
This sweet mead comes from La Ruche Martin, Julien Martin's bee farm in Montierchaume, near Châteauroux, in the Indre. The family has kept bees since the 1960s; Julien took over the hives in 2016 and now runs more than 500 colonies, some static and some moved with the seasons. According to the label, it is made from honey harvested in France, in the Indre. It is 12.5% ABV and sold in a 70 cl bottle.
The word moelleux on the label means the mead keeps some sugar and roundness, closer to a dessert wine than to a dry wine. The producer suggests it as an aperitif, with foie gras or roast duck, and with pastries. Serve it chilled, between 6 and 8 °C: colder than that, the honey aromas fade. In the kitchen, a dash deglazes the pan after a duck breast or seared foie gras, and a few centilitres are enough to poach pears, flavour a sabayon or soak a savarin.
Once opened, recork the bottle and keep it in the fridge. Contains sulphites. Please drink responsibly. You will also find it on the shelves of our shop, 58 rue Tiquetonne, Paris.
