Acacia Alsace HONEY 1kg LUTTENBACH

This jar comes from Le Rucher du Luttenbach, run by the Tonnelier family in Breitenau, in the Bas-Rhin. The apiary takes its name from the small stream that runs along the village, in the Villé valley at the foot of the Vosges, among meadows, orchards and forests. According to the beekeeper, it has about 300 colonies, and the label states that the honey is harvested and jarred in France by the family. The jar also carries the "Savourez l'Alsace, produit du terroir" logo.

The nectar comes from the flowers of the black locust, the thorny tree with white flower clusters that the French call acacia. The result is a very pale honey, almost clear in the jar, with a sweet scent and a mild taste. The producer says only ripe honey, below 18% moisture, is harvested, to prevent fermentation. The apiary entered this honey in the Concours général agricole in Paris, where it won a silver medal in 2019.

The 1 kg size suits a family or a kitchen that uses honey every day. Because it stays runny, it is easy to measure: in yoghurt, tea, a vinaigrette, a glaze for roast carrots or a crêpe batter. In baking, it adds moistness to financiers or a mild gingerbread. 1 kg glass jar, also on the shelves of our shop, 58 rue Tiquetonne, Paris.
