Description
Martin-Pouret has been a master vinegar maker in Orléans since 1797. The house developed this French ketchup from tomatoes grown in France, which make up 49% of the recipe, and its own white wine vinegar made in oak casks, which makes up 24%. The Subtly Smoked version also gets a smoke flavouring and seaweed. The label carries the Origine France Garantie logo, and the 280 g glass bottle comes from the workshop in Boigny-sur-Bionne, in the Loiret.
You can taste the vinegar: the sauce is brighter and less sweet than a supermarket ketchup, and the smoke stays in the background, as the name says. Serve it with homemade chips, roast potatoes, a burger or a hot dog. It goes with summer grills, pork ribs, sausages, skewers or corn on the cob, and works in a homemade barbecue sauce with a little honey and mustard. A spoonful also lifts scrambled eggs or a chicken sandwich.
The best-before date is printed on the neck of the bottle. You will also find it in our shop, 58 rue Tiquetonne, Paris.
